Purpose ACDC provides productions that have enhanced the San Antonio arts community, provided educational opportunities for the community’s future artists and afforded the dancers of the Alamo City Dance Company the ability to perform with major international guest artists. As San Antonio has grown the arts have more pressure to capture audience attention costing more money in advertisements, theater space, and choreography demands. With the diminished public health education in schools dance schools and associations have picked up and aided with healthy living styles. Research has found that students involved in dance have better reading, writing, and mathematics scores which may account for higher graduation rates for those involved with the arts. These children also are more connected to their society and accepting to cultures of other dancers. Alamo City Performing Arts Association (ACPAA) helps aspiring dancers to have an opportunity to experience working with professionals from all over the country; while also learning how a stage and performance works from beginning to end. This includes the production backstage, costuming requirements, dedication to practices, stage terminology, and stage presence. We have a wide range of dancers from professional to special needs who love and enjoy being both performers and audience members.
We uniquely have been part of San Antonio’s history since 1992 and have the longest produced family friendly Nutcracker; 25 years running. We continue to study in more than traditional ballet and include dances like Scottish Highland, Belly Dance, Flamenco, Folklorico that are essential to San Antonio’s history and culture. The Alamo City Dance Company was founded in 1991 by Nancy Grossenbacher and Scott Conway and is in residence at the San Antonio School for the Performing Arts also known as SASPA.The Alamo City Dance Company (ACDC) is a A Non-Profit 501 (c)(3) Organization entirely supported by ACPAA. ACPAA has been supporting performing arts since 1992. We have brought in professional artist from The Joffrey Ballet and other ballet companies to perform with the dancers we support. Alamo City Dance Company is the company we support which is a semi professional company. We have produced over 50 ballets all choreographed by professional choreographers. We will be producing our 25th annual Nutcracker that includes over 100 dancers from all over San Antonio. ACPAA also has given back to the community, such as Boys Town, San Antonio AIDS Foundation, Girl Scouts, and St, PJ’s Children’s home to name a few. ACDC performs ballet classics, contemporary jazz works, modern expressionism and even explores the realms of tap and ethnic dance. ACDC is truly an all-encompassing dance company and its dancers are a field of electricity and a power house of dance.
